FOOD HABITS AWARENESS PROGRAMME :

National Service Scheme and Yoga Club of Kongu Engineering College jointly organized the guest lecture on 23^rd Jan 2016, Saturday in Sir.C.V.Raman Seminar Hall, S&H Block. The topic is about “Iniya valkaiku eliya unavumuraigalum, udalpairchium”. Staff members from various departments had participated in the guest lecture. The guest lecture was started around 2.00 pm. The NSS volunteers and program officers participated in the guest lecture. Dr.B.S.Nivetha, B.N.Y.S, Chief Doctor in Padmasoorya Naturopathy & Yoga Hospital, Udumalpet is the chief guest for the guest lecture. She started her lecture with a prayer and explained the functioning of various systems in our body such as digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system. She also explained various tips for healthier life like waking up early in the morning, doing yoga, healthy breakfast, physical activities, playing games and going early to bed. She made the session more interactive by talking about some of the food items and chemicals which harm our body.  She insisted some primary principles and some diet therapy methods to the staffs.

She told that 90% of the diseases are born from mind disturbances. She said that household works and healthy food items such as sprouts, dhal making, steam boiling, vegetable cutting gives the physical strength to the body. She told some of the elements in the body which everyone should safeguard. She said that the mind is the key factor to lead a happy life. Plantain leaf sun bath, massage, diet therapy, water treatment, yoga therapy, mud therapy, yogic games many things are available for our body maintenance. She told that yoga increases the creativity and concentration, strengthens the physical body, improves the mental maturity, develops overall opportunity and increase the inner joy and happiness. Finally she completed her lecture by telling the ways to keep our life happy. After the guest lecture Dr.Nivetha interact with all the staffs and make all their doubts clear. The guest lecture was over at 5.00 in the evening.  

BLOOD GROUPING PROGRAMME

BLOOD GROUPING PROGRAMME:

National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College had organized the blood grouping programme for the Government school students in Thoppupalayam on 6^th Jan 2016. The NSS volunteers started in college by 10.00 in morning. Nearly 20 nursing students from Vellalar Women’s College accompanied with the NSS volunteers. We reached the government school in Thoppupalayam at 10.30 am. The school Head Master and the Head Mistress welcomed the college NSS team and inaugurated the blood grouping programme. They talked about the prevailing status of the school and their needs for the development of the school.

They also thanked the whole NSS team for arranging such a programme. With that the NSS Programme officers Dr.A.Manimaran, Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, Dr.R.Devipriya talked about the origin of NSS and the activities in NSS. After that, arrangements for the blood grouping programme was carried out by the volunteers and by the nursing students. The programme was started around 11.00 in the morning. The NSS volunteers were separated into two groups and arranged the school students. 

Then the blood grouping was carried out for the students up to fifth. Nearly 118 school students were tested and informed them with their respective blood group. Around 12.30 pm blood test was over.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS RALLY

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARNESS (16.10.2015):
    The NSS Volunteers of Kongu Engineering College had participated in an Environment Awareness Rally at Thindal in Erode district on October 16, 2015 (Friday). Nearly 50 NSS volunteers started from the college at 7.00 A.M. The NSS volunteers were provided with food in Erode mahal. Then the NSS volunteers reached Vellalar College of Engineering. Several college and school students participated in the rally. The rally was started around 9.00 A.M.

The rally is mainly focused to create awareness among the people in Erode district about Environmental pollution and about recycling of plastics. This rally was considered as a part of mega environmental awareness programme by the Department of Environment and Forests. Environment Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachelam inaugurated the rally. The rally was started from Sri Velayuthasami Temple premises and ended at Gurusamy Marriage Hall at Sengodampalayam.

The Students raised slogans relating to planting of saplings for restoration of Earth’s health, safeguarding nature, and securing rainwater. They also mentioned about enlarging scope for laying plastic roads and conserving electricity. After the rally, the inaugural function was started around 10.00A.M. The function was preceded by additional Chief Secretary K.S.kandan, Principal Secretary - Environment and Forests Department Hans Raj Verma, Director of Environment H. Mallesappa, and District Collector S. Prabakar. They gave the speech regarding creating awareness about recycling of plastics and they requested all to protect the environment and to create awareness. The function came to an end around 11.A.M.

THYROID CAMP (PHASE-II)

THYROID CAMP (PHASE-II):
        The National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College in association with ABBOTT and Thyrocare Centre, Erode had organized a consulting Thyroid camp on 5th October, 2015 at Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Seminar Hall for those who had got positive result in T3 and T4. T3 and T4 test was conducted on 23 rd September at Kalingarayan Seminar Hall (Civil Block). In that test 50 members got positive results. Those 50 members were made to participate in the consulting session. Totally 15 NSS volunteers took part in this thyroid camp. 

Dr.V.Senthil Kumar M.B.B.S, DA, FC DIAB, Diabetologist and Criticalcare Physician from Suham Diabetic Centre hospital cleared many doubts of the several students. After consulting, tablets were also provided to the respective students and staff.

 

THYROID CAMP (PHASE-I)

THYROID CAMP (PHASE-I):

     The National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College in association with ABBOTT and Thyrocare Centre, Erode had organized a Thyroid camp in the month of March, 2015 at Maharaja Auditorium. They had undergone TSH test (Initial Screening test for thyroid) in the month of March. The National Service Scheme in association with ABBOTT and Thyrocare Centre, Erode had again organized another Thyroid camp for those who had got positive result in TSH testing on 23 rd September at Kalingarayan Seminar Hall (Civil Block). In that TSH test 150 members got positive results. Those 150 members were made to undergone next phase of testing called T3 and T4. Totally 15 NSS volunteers took part in this thyroid camp. 

The program was preceded by Prof.S.Kuppuswami, Principal, Dr.A.Manimaran, NSS Programme Officer (Unit I) and Mr.S.Praveen Kumar NSS Programme Officer (Unit II). The NSS volunteers along with the doctors went to their respective venues for testing process. The Volunteers were instructed by the doctors and testing procedures was started around 10.15. A.M. The thyroid camp came to an end around 3.00 P.M.
