ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS RALLY
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARNESS (16.10.2015):
The NSS Volunteers of Kongu Engineering College had participated in an Environment Awareness Rally at Thindal in Erode district on October 16, 2015 (Friday). Nearly 50 NSS volunteers started from the college at 7.00 A.M. The NSS volunteers were provided with food in Erode mahal. Then the NSS volunteers reached Vellalar College of Engineering. Several college and school students participated in the rally. The rally was started around 9.00 A.M.
The rally is mainly focused to create awareness among the people in Erode district about Environmental pollution and about recycling of plastics. This rally was considered as a part of mega environmental awareness programme by the Department of Environment and Forests. Environment Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachelam inaugurated the rally. The rally was started from Sri Velayuthasami Temple premises and ended at Gurusamy Marriage Hall at Sengodampalayam.
The Students raised slogans relating to planting of saplings for restoration of Earth’s health, safeguarding nature, and securing rainwater. They also mentioned about enlarging scope for laying plastic roads and conserving electricity. After the rally, the inaugural function was started around 10.00A.M. The function was preceded by additional Chief Secretary K.S.kandan, Principal Secretary - Environment and Forests Department Hans Raj Verma, Director of Environment H. Mallesappa, and District Collector S. Prabakar. They gave the speech regarding creating awareness about recycling of plastics and they requested all to protect the environment and to create awareness. The function came to an end around 11.A.M.
