WORLD POPULATION
DAY(21.08.2017):
World Population day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year,
which seeks to raise awareness of global
population issues.
The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations
Development Programme in
1989.The
National Service Scheme of Kongu
Engineering College organized a speech competition representing the WORLD
POPULATION DAY in association with Erode Collectorate Office in Swami
Vivekanandha seminar hall, Department of Mechanical Engineering on
21.08.2017(Monday).
The event commenced at
5.30 p.m. The event was preceded by Dr.Muthulakshmi, R.Dhana, D.Swaminathan. It
started with the welcome address, which was presented by Mr.V.Seenuvasan, IV
year NSS Volunteer.
Then a special address
was given by R.Dhana, Regional Educational Officer. She stated the recent
crisis on increasing world population and added that India is rapidly
increasing its population rather than developing its economic status.
She expressed that our
country's development, welfare of motherhood and bright future of children
depends on controlling the world population.
She also listed certain
measures that could be followed to maintain the population such as promoting
women education, principles of nuclear family, avoiding infanticide, etc. And
she also mentioned the role of men and women in maintaining the population.
Then she gave few suggestions regarding women welfare as the infertility rate
is increasing at the present situation due to changing the environment. She
insisted the NSS volunteers to involve in educating the people regarding
population crisis. And ended her speech by taking oath of World population.
The session then
continued by distributing prizes for the winners of speech competition on the
topic "World Population" by the chief guests. The II year volunteers
such as Kavin, Aniruth, and Ashok were the winners of the event. Then the Vote
of thanks was narrated by D.Swaminathan. Finally the session came to an end by
6.30 p.m.
