NADHIGALAI
MEETPOM (19.08.17)
The
National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College had arranged for a meet
regarding “NadhigalaiMeetpom” in Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Seminar Hall in
Department of Mechatronics. At about 4.30 p.m. the function was started and
around 100 NSS volunteers attended the programme. The awareness was given by
Mr.Manickam and Mr.Ayappan from Mr.Sadhguru’s Isha Yoga centre. They first of
all introduced themselves and started to discuss about the present situation of
water scarcity.
It
was so interesting to attend the lecture since he gave lot of statistical information
about the reasons behind the water scarcity, shrinking of rivers and how to
overcome this situation. The main theme of the Rally for Rivers is to save
rivers for our future generation. They explained about the methodology that is
they had planned to plant trees for 1km on both sides of a river bank. Thus
trees help us to gain rain, roots help to prevent soil erosion and also resist
the velocity of water and so it takes much time to reach the sea or ocean.
They
asked the NSS volunteers to support their scheme and to create awareness among
the other students, relatives etc.. They
presented few videos regarding endangered condition of river in Tamilnadu and
also in other states. They planned to implement this scheme in 16 states to save
some rivers like Krishna, Brahmaputra,Godavari including Cauvery. They asked the
NSS volunteers to involve themselves in order to provide a better life for the
future generations.
They informed the gathering that
Mr.Sadhguru had planned for a rally on 3rd September,2017 from
Kanyakumari to Delhi via 16 states. Then there was an interaction session
between the volunteers and the guests in which the volunteers arose lot of
questions such as the balance between the agriculture and the scheme, how to
overcome this situation and how to take care of the trees which are to be
planted on either sides of the river bank. Thus the function came to an end
around 6.30 pm.
