EYE CHECK UP CAMP

       The National Service Scheme of KonguEngineering Collegeorganized a free eye camp in association with Dr.Agarwal’sEye Hospital, Erode. 60 NSS volunteers participated in the camp.They had done their service for three days (25.03.2015-27.03.2015) and the NSS volunteers guided the students and staff members of KEC for their check-up. A complete and proper eye check up was done by the doctors and the suggestions were given to the students and staffs. They also cleared their doubts and gave remedies for various eye problems. 1045 members including students, staffs and non-teaching faculties from various departments of Kongu Engineering College participated in this free eye camp and they were checked by the doctors from Dr.Agarwal’sEye Hospital, Erode .The camp was started at 9.00 A.M in the morning,and ended at 5.00 P.M. for all the three days.



       On first day (25.03.2015-WEDNESDAY) the eye camp was held in Maharaja Auditorium. 328 members including students, staff and non-teaching faculties from various departments participated in this eye camp.



      

OnSecond day (26.03.2015-THURSDAY) the eye camp was held inSir.C.V.Raman hall (Science & Humanity block). 325 students were participated on second day. 



       On third day (27.03.2015-FRIDAY) the eye camp was held in Mahatma Gandhi Seminar hall (EEE block). Thiru.V.K.Muthusamy, B.A., B.L., Correspondent, KEC,Prof.S.Kuppusamy, Principal, KEC, participated in this eye camp on third day. 392 members participated in the eye camp on third day.  On the final day of the free eye camp, as a token of love and gratitude memento was given to the team of Dr AgarwalsEye Hospital, Erode.

PUBLIC GRIEVANCES CAMP

       A Public Grievances camp was organized by the Erode district Superintendent of Police, at Perundurai on 24th March, 2015 (Tuesday). It mainly focused on solving the problems of people belonging to regions in and around Perundurai. Lion’s club members, people of Kodumudi, Malaiyampalayam, Perundurai, Sivagiri, Chennimalai, Sathyamangalam participated in this meeting .The NSS volunteers of Kongu Engineering College attended the meeting.


        The meeting was started at 5.20PM. A brief speech was given by the DSP, Mr. S. Cibi Chakaravarthy. His speech mainly covered the day to day issues like Drunk and Drive, Robbery and the rapidly increasing accidents in the town. He insisted the service oriented organizations to create an awareness programmes on Robbery, Traffic, Drunk and Drive to people in their respective zones.


        The various problems faced by the people in the town were brought into account one by one. They told  that the work done by the traffic police of Perundurai was not sufficient and were insisted to work effectively in traffic clearing. The people of Perundurai asked to construct a divider and a speed breaker near the Perundurai Medical college due to the heavy traffic. As robbery by small children at bus stands is increasingly nowadays, the people insisted to provide counselling and to arrange jobs for those children. Then they suggested that a traffic police could be appointed to function in both morning and evening near the schools running at Chennimalai to avoid accidents.

       The NSS volunteers of Kongu Engineering College explained the problems faced by the people due to the usage of plastics. They mentioned the real issues faced by the environment due to increased usage of plastics. They also came out with a solution to start using paper bags instead of plastic bags in and around the town. They mentioned that they were actively ready to help the people by providing paper bags manufactured in the college, by the student volunteers of NSS.


       Then the meeting was continued by solving some other problems of the people. The head of the Auto Drivers Association asked to allow more autos to carry loads in the market areas. It was complained that there was no bus stop near the Navarasam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, for the students coming from a longer distance. Then they complained that the waste ground at the backside of the Kodumudi Library was illegally used by the strangers. They also mentioned their unwillingness against Tasmac that has been planned to be set up. The people of Arachalur explained the problem faced by women while walking through the bridge, as they were disturbed by the drunken people, who were mostly college students.
    
       Finally, the issues listed by the people were promised to be rectified  at the most by the Erode Police. He also mentioned some safety and general precautions that people could follow during emergency situations. He informed the gathering that it has been planned to conduct the meeting once in a month, so that the problems and issues faced by the people would be directly brought into account. The meeting came to an end by 6.30 PM.

Campus Cleaning Programme - 4

      “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. To make this true, the National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College had organized a campus cleaning programme on Sunday (15.3.2015) in the college campus of Kongu Engineering College. The NSS volunteers had involved in the campus cleaning programme to spread plastic awareness among their friends and to make the campus environment neat and clean. The cleaning programme had started by 6.30 A.M. The volunteers had cleaned various places in the college campus to remove the plastic wastes. They had collected the plastic materials and the wastes around the college campus, hostels, staff quarters, convention centre, etc. The NSS programme officers Dr.A.Manimaran and Mr.S.Praveen Kumar guided the students.130 NSS volunteers attended the Campus cleaning programme. After the campus cleaning programme, a small interaction programme was arranged. In that programme, NSS Programme officer Dr.A.Manimaran and Mr.S.Praveen Kumar discussed about Eye camp and other forthcoming events and gave general instructions to the NSS Volunteers. The programme ended by 11.30 A.M.

PRASIDHI'15 - A STATE LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM

PRASIDHI’15 A STATE LEVEL SYMPOSIUM 


         The National Service Scheme of Kongu Engineering College has organized a State Level Technical Symposium, Prasidhi’15 on 13.03.2015 (Friday) at Swami Vivekananda seminar hall (Mechanical Department). 150 NSS volunteers and 70 students from other colleges participated in this event.The function was started around 10.00 A.M with the prayer song by our NSS volunteer.



       The kuthuvilaku was lighted by the chief guest Mr.K.Saravanan, Proprietor, Pasumai Iyarkai Urangal, Kavundapadi, Thiru.V.K.Muthuswamy, B.A., B.L., Correspondent, Dr.A.Manimaran NSS Program Officer (Unit#1) , Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, NSS Program Officer ( Unit#2), and by the NSS volunteers Mr.S.R.Sabarish and Ms.K.Saranya. 
        At 10.15 A.M, the welcome address was by Ms.K.Saranya (NSS Volunteer). She welcomed the chief guest Mr.K.Saravanan, Proprietor, Pasumai Iyarkai Urangal, Kavundapadi, Thiru.V.K.Muthuswamy, B.A., B.L., Correspondent, KEC, Prof.S.Kuppuswami, Principal, KEC, Mr.Navaneetha Krishnan, Head of the department, Mechanical, KEC, Mr.Parameshwaran, Head of the department, Mechatronics, KEC, Staff members, Students of KEC and participants from various colleges. She talked about the importance of saving nature with the theme “Green India”.





        Then the function was presided by Prof.S.Kuppuswami, Principal, KEC. He welcomed the gathering and motivated each student to make our Earth Green. He added that the inorganic matters present in our earth will leads to various diseases like cancer. Then he compared about the availability of water prevailing nowadays to that of the watering system present in the older days. He said that the changes in the society can be made only by citizens of our country. And he insisted everyone to make our country “Green Country” and natural way of living. Finally he concluded his speech by delivering the importance of “Green Country”.


       Thiru.V.K.Muthusamy, B.A., B.L., Correspondent delivered his speech. He welcomed everyone on the dice and off the dice. He told about the agriculture status in today’s world and its importance. He gave a brief explanation about green revolution and white revolution and he thanked the great personalities who introduced green revolution. He told that, in earlier days they used natural fertilizers (organic fertilizers) for the plants to get healthy food but nowadays farmers were using inorganic fertilizers for aiming high yield.


       At 10.35 A.M, multimedia was presented which covered the academic activities of the National Service Scheme.


         At 10.40 A.M the Chief guest Mr.K.Saravanan, Proprietor, Pasumai Iyarkai Urangal, Kavundapadi, started his inaugural speech. He talked about the efforts of the Engineering students towards the welfare of the society through NSS. Then he told about the world disease like cancer etc., is because of the food habits in today’s world and about the importance of agriculture, which is the high potential of getting more income. He insisted everyone to plant saplings and to save rain water to strengthen our nation. He requested everyone to do agriculture in natural way using organic manure. Finally he concluded his speech by saying that only students have the power to change the society and make our nation “Green India”.


       The events commenced on 11.15 A.M. The various events like paper presentation, multimedia and poster presentation were held in the morning session where participants from various colleges actively participated and showcased their talents in various competitions.




       After the lunch, the Quiz, Photography, Connection, and Just a minute events were conducted. At 4.15 P.M the refreshment was provided to the participants. 



        The valedictory function was started at 4.40 P.M. The function was presided by Prof. S.Balamurugan, Dean, School of Communication and Computer Sciences, KEC. 
        He started his valedictory address and welcomed the gathering and talked about the green revolution introduced by Mr.C.Subramanian when he was an Environmental Minister. He insisted everyone to use renewable energy instead using non-renewable energy. He told about Swatch Bharat, which means clean and green India and also about the electronic gadgets which were used to make ourselves comfortable but it results in e-waste. And he added that only 5% of e-waste is recycled and remaining 95% is left without recycling. He told that optimum utilization of electronic gadgets is good for everything. He appreciated that NSS is the only scheme which directly takes the messages to the people. Finally he congrats the NSS organizers and he asked to increase all the NSS activities in the following years.





         At 4.55 P.M prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various events by Prof.S.Balamurugan, Dean, School of Communication and Computer Sciences, KEC. As a token of love and gratitude Dr.A.Manimaran and Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, NSS Programme Officers presented a memento to juries of various events.


        Finally the function came to an end with vote of thanks by Mr.S.S.M.Satheeshkanth, NSS volunteer.

THYROID CHECKUP CAMP

THYROID CHECKUP CAMP
         The National Service Scheme of KONGU ENGINEERING COLLEGE in association with ABBOTT and Thyrocare Centre, Erode organized an awareness and screening session for testing the symptoms of Thyroid for Students and staff members of Kongu Engineering College on 10th March 2015 (Tuesday). The awareness program was started around 10.00 A.M. in Maharaja Auditorium with the prayer song. The presence of Mr.S.Balakrishnan, Ms.N.A.Punithavathi, Prof.S.Kuppuswami, Principal, KEC, Dr.A.Manimaran, NSS Programme Officer (Unit#1) and Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, NSS Programme Officer (Unit#2) added glory to the function. The welcome address was by The function was started with the multimedia presentation. The presentation covered the activities of special camp which was held at Myladi from 16th February to 23rd February. The Presidential address was by Prof. S.Kuppuswami, Principal, KEC. He welcomed the gathering and thanked the ABBOTT and Thyrocare Centre for their service. He appreciated the NSS Volunteers for their excellent works and asked to continue this during the forthcoming years. He also shared his experience in the field of service and quoted some incidents. Then the session was made more useful with the multimedia presentation by Balakrishnan. The presentation was about the symptoms, causes and the ways to detect the thyroid. The symptoms of thyroid were weight loss, dry skin, loss of hair, tiredness etc. and this is more prevalent in women than in men. There are about two types of thyroid namely hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. The screening test deals with various testing procedures. Initial test was TSH followed by that, T3 and T4 test will be taken. Finally he completed his presentation by talking about the importance of thyroid and the ways to avoid prevent thyroid. The awareness program came to an end by the vote of thanks by Sharnish, NSS Volunteer. Then the NSS volunteers along with the doctors went to their respective venues for testing process. The venues were Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall, Mechanical, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Hall, IT Park, Chanakya Seminar Hall, Food tech, Sir CV Raman Seminar Hall, S&H Block, and Maharaja Auditorium. The Volunteers were instructed by the doctors and testing procedures were started around 11.15. A.M. Students from various departments, Teaching and Non-teaching staff, and workers participated in this camp and get benefited. Around 5.00 P.M. totally 629 thyroid samples were collected.
