Vivekananda memorial orientation programme



Vivekananda memorial  orientation programme:
          National Youth Day is celebrated in India on 12 January on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year. The National Service Scheme of  Kongu Engineering College took part in an orientation program organized by Ramachandra Mission in Erode on 04.1.2017 in regards to Vivekananda memorial day. 

                                                " Intoduction to Meditation"
    Morning  at  7.00 a.m,  nearly   45  NSS  volunteers  from 2nd, 3rd and final year  NSS  volunteers  started to the center at Nasiyapuram, Erode. After reaching  the center ,the  brothers  and  the sisters from that center received  us . We  finished  our  breakfast  at  8.30 A.M. After  that  we  entered  the  meditation  hall  at  8.40 A.M. Sisters  from that  center  distributed  books  and  pens  to  us. One  brother  from  that  center  gave a  brief  introduction  about  the  benefits  of  meditation. And  then  he told  us  about  Ramachandra mission, a  non-profit  organization.  At 9.30 a.m., the  sister  from that center discussed regarding Stress Management and conducted an activity which  was a self  evaluation  of  stress through which  we  came  to  know  that  most  of  us are  under  stress  and  she also told  us  about  the  types  of  stress, such as physical  stress, behavioural  stress, cognitive  stress emotional  stress.

 At 11.15 a.m. we left to have our tea break . Later , she  continued the  session  by  explaining  the steps to  overcome the stress such as correct thinking , to be patient , right understanding , be  honest  which does  not  hurt  others by saying an example of  anchor  controlling the  big ship. And  she  told  us  about   4A’s  which  were to avoid the  things  , alter the situation , adopt the  stress  and accept  the  things. And  some beneficial  steps are to  overcome  stress eat well, meditate,  good  sleep at night , be  open  and  share  feelings ,eat   nutritious foods. And  she  expressed  one  beautiful  quote  “ You are  the  experiment,  you  are  the  experimenter, you  are  the  outcome”. And  then  at  12.30 p.m.  they presented us with a  movie based  on  “Vivekananda on himself”. At  1.15 p.m. we  went  for  lunch, after  finishing  our  lunch  we  assembled back  into  the  meditation  hall  at  2.00 p.m. 




















" The Stress Calculation Activity Worksheet"
Another  sister  from  that  center  gave an  explanation  about  interpersonal  and  intrapersonal relationship and  also regarding love & ego. And  we  were instructed to do a  pair  activity  to  analyze our  inter and  intrapersonal  relationships. Then, they  played  a  video  about  love &ego  which  was  very  impressive. At  2.50 p.m., one  brother  from  that  center  shared us with some suggestions and told us about the power of thoughts in us.

        Then another  sister  from  that  center  gave a short and sweet explanation about effective communication. After that  we were made to  meditate  for  half  an  hour , then  they asked about feedback from the students who participated . Many of  our  students  interacted  with  those sisters  and  brothers  and  also  they  added  some suggestions  to  improve so that sessions would be more interesting. And  the  brothers  and  sisters  were  very  happy  about  our attitude.  And  finally they completed the orientation  programme by 4.30 p.m. Then we  took a  group  photograph  with  them. After a tea break we left  the  center by  5.15 p.m. and reached our college by 5.50 p.m.
